HOWEVER, it does cause me some slight issues in what to wear each day … I have a large (ish) wardrobe full of clothes and I see so many outfits as I glance up and down the rails and ideas just pop out and throw themselves at me all the time – I can never make up my mind what to wear and it takes far too long to get ready. I need to rectify that as the school term starts again tomorrow and I need to be up and ready to go to work for 8am. I also need to get 2 children up and ready for school for 8am – we cannot be late! I can do it, I did it last year without any problems but I’ve lost my routine with the long summer holidays. (note: one part of my other day job is to work in an office with 3 men who are developers and therefore wear jeans/tshirts and do not care at all about clothes and what you look like, even still, I like to pretend I work in fancy office where there is a dress code!!!)
I also like routine, I like order and I like to feel in
control. I have not been in control for
9 weeks and I don’t like it – it really does alter what I get done day to day
and for 9 weeks I feel I’ve been in a cloud of confusion and guilt (not being a
good mother, not working hard enough, not keeping the house neat and tidy as it is usually and most of all getting to the end of the
day frustrated with having NOT achieved what I had hoped. So I set myself a task each evening and say
to myself ‘tomorrow will be a better day, I will get x,y and z done, I will I
will I will) and then it happens each evening that I sit back and look at the
lack of achievement and the mantra continues.
Tomorrow IS going to be a good day. I will get up, ready and out of the door for
8am and be in the office for 9. I will
have to know today what I’m wearing in the morning to save 15 mins of ‘what the
heck am I going to wear today’ then type of conversation with myself.
I have played it very casual over the summer hols so should
I get more dressed up than usual just because I can? I reckon I should! Which outfit do you think for the first day back at school?!
EDIT – just tried on 3 choices of outfit and it seems I’ve
been drinking too much wine over the
holidays to deal with the stress of working from home and children – oh dear I’m
SUPER sucking in on all but the spotty dress – so the spots win for me and
my muffin top tomorrow!
How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? Do you plan your outfit the night
before? Do you get it out and ready on
the hanger so you really don’t have to ‘think’ about it?
Would love to see what you’ve worn on the school run this
week .. post your daily photos on Avenue 57

PS The downside of being a walking advert for your own
business is that you have to make an effort each and every day …. But one day
.. one day I might just rock up to school with my hair not blow dried, no
makeup and crocs
I'm with you on the downside - when people know you have a blog, they expect you to look super fashionable every day!! Not fair!! Loving the spots and the last dress too. The first one not as much. Good luck with the school run...and enjoy the peace from the kiddies for a few hours Avril xx
ReplyDeleteSpots it is for tomorrow - will add scarf and denim jacket as the mornings are cool here at the moment.

Quite frankly thats thurs fri and sat sorted I think!! Spots 2mrw and I love the last one. I was thinking that tonite I'm going to spend some time with my wardrobe and map out some outfits, mainly before I have to put the summer stuff away! I shall be doing per-school runs now for AM on a thurs and fri so want some easy but good looking outfits to pull together. I read today that Fearne Cotton gets 3 outfits ready each night for the morning and then chooses one of them depending on her mood in the morning? Sounds like a good idea to me!

that 3 outfit thing sounds brilliant - I've gone so many times to the outfit I've thought about and then woken and thought 'nah' ...
ReplyDeleteIf I got a casual jeans look out, a dress look and something in between I could choose - right - you've inspired me, I'd doing it for next week!
Thanks!
Fiona
I love number 3!
ReplyDeleteI love number 3 too but major sucking in required! I shall wear it soon once I start my pilates class and do a few sit ups!!

If I can find half an hour, I will try on and plan out my outfits for the week ahead of time and hang them lined up in a prominent spot. Then I don't have to mess with what goes with what the morning of. I love your #1, your drapey-neck stripey dress! Good luck through this transition! :-)
ReplyDelete@josie - that makes total sense - I do have the space in our new house so I REALLY should do this to save the faffing! This morning ran like clockwork because I'd planned what to wear! I posted my look here and added a denim jacket as it was chilly http://www.avenue57.com/a57/look/3272/back-to-school.aspx
