Zara LBD - gutted

When I first spotted My Midlife Fashion I noticed that she not only has an/a obsession thing for Zara but also for statement necklaces. Each time she posts on Avenue 57 and her blog she's got one on and it TOTALLY makes the outfit she's wearing. She repeatedly wears this huge chunky pearl necklace, so I rushed to order it only to be told it was out of stock. However, Zara have a great email facility for out of stock items. Enter your email address and they email you when back in - brilliant! So, when my email arrived I put it in my shopping basket and then got distracted and ignored it.

So, the other day, My Midlife Fashion posted a pic of herself in a black dress WITH THE PEARLS so now I'm in love not only with the pearls again but the dress she has worn them with. Cue a quick log on to Zara.com and my order was placed for both items.

Here is the dress on the website - honestly, I wouldn't have looked twice at it if I hadn't seen my lovely new friend in hers. Have you ever seen such a miserable uninspiring model?

Here is My Midlife Fashion in hers, talk about wow wow wow

So mine arrived, looking just as dull and boxy as it does on the Zara website

And the pearls I KNEW were meant to be mine arrived looking stunning.

So I carefully put the dress on as there is not a zip, it's just a pop on over your head type of dress and then I heard and felt a PING .. the stitch to hold your modesty in broke - I actually nearly cried! It's needed for a reason, without it the dress DOES NOT WORK ON ANY LEVEL - evidence here .... nice bra though don't you think?!

So now I have to return the item and I'm in two minds if I should ask for an exchange or just a refund? I have NO NEED (at this time) for a black dress, just thought it would be a good one to have as I only have one other in my wardrobe and what kind of person only as 1 LBD to wear?

So, refund or exchange?

Fiona
xoxo

  1. Oh that is such a shame as it is such a lovely dress on. (agreed ... wouldn't have looked twice if I hadn't seen it on My Midlife Fashion) The pearls are SUPER though .. saw them in the shop, but after the lambasting I got about pearls in January, I'm afraid to go near them again, lol!!!

    1. who told you off about pearls??
It's a really good chunky necklace and for £20 it's quite the bargain - you will see me wear them weekly!

Dress packed back in its box :-(

    2. EVERYONE told me off about pearls!! In fairness, it was a rush job to take a pic and I had them on with a sequin jacket .. very lady-who-plays-bridge lol! Totally lambasted on the blog for it .. but deservedly so! Still .. slightly scared of pearls ever since :)

    3. Perhaps with sequins it was too much? I'm off to find said post on your blog now!

  2. I think the dress looks stunning on you, love it with the leopard print shoes and black tights, so I vote for exchange :) Thanks for the lovely comments, I'm very flattered & yes I am completely obsessed with all things Zara..lol!!. Looking forward to seeing what you wear your pearl necklace with x

    1. I cannot wait to wear the pearls tomorrow!
The dress is in the box :-( I can't justify a dress that I don't need (and remind me of this when I do need one and I can't get hold of it!)
I NEED silver Ash hi tops first and at £135 I need to save!

  3. I vote exchange too! It looks great on you & don't forget like My Midlife Fashion showed on her wonderful blog you can dress it down in the summer with sandals too?! I'm ashamed to say I only own 1 decent LBD which I've had for donkeys years! You've both got me thinking though as I could do with a Summery one to wear too! Ax

    1. It was gorgeous - I just can't make up my mind - although I just looked at my bank balance and that made my mind up for me - gutted :-(

  4. Wow I love this dress - I normally spend a few minutes tring to visualize each Zara item on me as their site styling is so dire but this dress escaped me - I'm going back to take a look! I haven't bought anything on vacation yet!

  5. I'm a bit fatalistic about this kind of thing, go for refund, as this event could be a sign that you will pick up dress for a fiver in the sale any time soon!

    1. That's the sensible reply I needed to hear!!

  6. Can you not sew it yourself? I know it faulty, but it looks like a fairly simple repair, and will save the hassle of a return? Maybe even put a small press stud on it to make getting it on and off easier?

    1. I 'could' in the theory yes .. but in practise no - I can't sew anything - barely a button back on a shirt!

Also it's new - brand new, I wouldn't want to be having to attempt to ruin it with my sewing before even wearing it once!!

Press stud? What? Come on .. stop taking the micky

  7. I've realised that the Zara woman is not a woman - she's an avatar! The stuff looks completely different on her to you because the proportions are all off - some computer geek who hasn't a clue is placing the clothing on her! I vote to send back for a refund. It's a tricky shape to wear - would you not be pulling and fixing the neckline the whole time? x

    1. Bet a man designed 'her'!

If it weren't broken then it would be ok - just a lovely V neckline but it's currently broken so going back

  8. Fiona - another shot of your boobs! Take it to your mum's or a friends and ask them to do the honours. Honestly if you like it, it's worth the hassle of having to do the returns.

But you've talked yourself out of it by now haven't you? I can tell. You needed to scratch the itch!

    1. LOL perhaps I should do a daily cleavage shot?!! Actually there was something in the press recently about a blogger that did this!

It's going back - bank balance says so PLUS I have a ton of stuff I NEED to buy that I will wear more than once a year.

I have to say, Zara ordering online is second to none and the updates I received with timings of arrival were brilliant! First time I've ordered online with them!

    1. I've refunded :-(
      Bank balance told me to!
I have kept the pearls though - that would have been a TRUE crime to return them!
£20 and will transform a LOAD of outfits I know

  10. I love Zara but found the quality just went a few years ago and so I stopped buying from there. Then I went to Barcelona last year and they had the SS12 collection in before London and I was sucked in and bought a few bits. On one wear the stitching down the arm of a silk blouse just pulled away and the hem on the trousers came undone, so wish I had saved my Euros! See you have refunded, wise choice I think, but its such a nice dress! They need to sharpen up the quality for me to buy from there again :( x

    1. I used to shop ONLY in Zara, it was perfect for my shape, I loved their clothes etc but then it just went 'off' for me and I've not been in store a lot at all. Last time I went in I was totally out of love with 99.9% of the stock.

Shame the quality has gone downhill - their prices have increased too and their sales are RUBBISH!

I'm now a convert to Mango!

  11. Snap - lived in Zara for ages! I have even found the sizing to be all over the place recently and tbh I cant cope with the rummaged stores! Online is the only way if shopping Zara!

    Big Mango convert too!

    1. So pleased I'm not alone! Zara online ordering and returns is fantastic.
However, what on EARTH is wrong with their styling? I can't 'see' beyond the gormless computer generated model and shapeless clothes
