Husband got back from a 10 day overseas trip and was not feeling up to coffee in town with me so off I went alone. HOORAH!
Did a couple of dull chores (returning HIS clothes he bought that didn't fit at home) and then slowly walked by H&M talking to myself "I'm not going in, I'm not going in, I'm not going in. Why buy high street when you have your own shop and can steal". I went in.
I don't even know that I need anything/was looking for anything but with time on my hands and the offer of a sale I knew I'd find something.
CAN I JUST SAY that H&M has to be the RANDOMEST of shops for sizing. I vary from a size 8 to a 16 - the evidence is below!
They are having these quick flash discounts on certain items so I grabbed as much as I could and a few items along the way. On the sale rack I saw the black dungarees everyone on Avenue 57 has been showing off and so I thought I'd grab the last pair. Unfortunately they were a size 16. I then remember that the H&M ones come up small so I decided to take them for a laugh.... see pics below!
Also can I just say that the Newbury H&M store is horrid. The layout is not favourable, the racks are too full, clothes on the sales racks too tightly packed. No-one monitoring the changing rooms so they were dirty, clothes everywhere and it was quite possible the worst trying on session I've had in a long time!
Very few words, lot of pictures!
Stripy skirt - always wanted one but I have no waist and I don't like the waist look. I did like how soft and stretchy it was though. NEVER know how to wear skirts :-(
Size M (a 12 I'm guessing)
It was on offer at £7 for this very reason. Step away from the Ghostbusters fancy dress boiler suit Fiona. Yes, I am that distressed about it.
Size 8
If Natalie on A57 can look so good in a lace dress then why can't I? It didn't even fecking do up at the back!
Size 10
I loved this dress. It was only £10 but I am still really thinking before I buy anything, regardless of the price. I have an orange dress already - I actually don't need another so I left it behind (will kick myself in the summer I know).
Size 8
I loved the print of this jumpsuit (I am so determined to get one this summer) and at £10 it ticked all the boxes. Until I tried it on. Not only was it indecent but it had this extra flap of material on only one leg - say what? I then realised as I took it off that a button was missing on the cleavage part so that is why it's like this!
Size 10
I loved this navy shirt dress so much, But with my 'think twice before buying' hat on I left it behind. I have similar in the shop that I can steal.
Size 10
Loved this but I'm too tight to pay £29.99 for a black day time dress (would dress down with trainers/flip flops). Will go back and buy if they have an offer as I loved it and it came in all sorts of colours and patterns. Great length.
Size 10
And now to what I actually bought.
Simple orange blouse, on offer at £10. Will wear this A LOT for hiding my wine baby.
Size 8
And the marmite item of the day in a size 16 that fit beautifully. I've not taken the tags off. I'm going to give them a blog post all of their own over the weekend to see 'how' I can style them and if I can pull this look off - I'm not sure but for £15 I was willing to give them a try. I also bought the simple v neck grey tshirt too (size M).
What do you think?

Pretty restrained Fiona. The dungarees look great on you. Still can't believe they're only £15, keep them xx
ReplyDeleteI've kept them, I've even worn them and I mortified the children in the process! Love a bit of mum embarrassment!
DeleteYou definitely made the right choices. I love those dungarees! I find H&M very strange on sizing as well, and it annoys me some of the items are S, M L etc and others are numbered! X
ReplyDeleteIt's just random and annoying. I'll never order online if my experience in real life was from a size 8 to 16!
DeleteTheir sizing has put me off ordering online in the past....however now you can return to store instead of sending back to Sweden it's worth purchasing a couple of sizes to find a good fit! The lace dress and boilersuit have given me a laugh....think you should seriously consider going back for the black dress though as that looks lovely on you! xx
ReplyDeleteOh ok that's good. I remember returning in store before but only getting a credit note which annoyed me even more!!!!!!
DeleteLol those dungarees are a 16??? Ok whatever. That's insane. They look nice though.
ReplyDeleteAgree, I hate the newbury H&M too!!
Newbury H&M needs a new store manager!
DeleteI love you in the dungarees! Glad you tried them on before me though - if you're a 16 I don't imagine they'll stock a size 22 for me to struggle into! I agree that the black dress is great on you. Did you know if you sign up online to receive the H&M new letter you get a discount on your first order? 25% I think. Just sayin' :-D xx
ReplyDelete25% would make that dress do'able - thank you very much!
DeleteYou look so cool in the dungys! The sizing is so random in there isn't it? LOL @ the Ghostbusters jumpsuit! x
ReplyDeleteI am thinking that the ghostbusters rompersuit would be good even if for fancy dress!
DeleteOh our local stores are just the same. I walk into any H&M and I just become overwhelmed by the chaos and leave again. That boiler suit is hysterical .. and we'll say nothing about the dungarees *mwah* xx Love the black dress though - go back! go back!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see you in a pair of dungarees - go on, try and buy some just for me:-)
DeleteOMG! Check you in the dungarees? You look amazing!! I think you made a good call on everything else - Orange top is amazing on you as well. Now find myself wishing I could go to H&M right away!! X
ReplyDeleteLove the Orange top and the dungarees look fab too! Love the black dress as well Lynne xx
