A shirt into a dress?

I was going through some old Facebook photos of mine and came across a few in 2011 where I took one my fathers shirts and made it into a dress - yes really I did!

Inspired by this video on You Tube I thought I'd have a go .. the results are ...

Now I'm not sure I'd actually be brave enough to ever wear out in public but was a whole load of fun one silly Sunday afternoon with my parents!

What crazy things have you done where you take one item and make it into another?

  1. Oh my goodness - you're officially crackers! I thought you were actually stripping off in the first photo and I was there thinking where is this going but actually that's pretty clever - not sure I'd wear it (okay - I definitely wouldn't wear it) but it's good for an afternoons entertainment. I haven't done anything as drastic as that - just chopped down a couple of items from dresses to tops and long coats to shorter ones - gosh - I feel a bit timid in comparison to your effort.

I take it the heating was on in the conservatory then?

  2. It was summer of 2011 .. if you look closely there is a wine glass in the first two photos - this speaks volumes!!!

I wish I had the ability to be creative in terms of cutting things/making things but I lack that gene! You must take a before and after shot of anything you do in the future - would love to see

  3. Hats off to you Fiona - I love the honesty of your posts. The top of the 'dress' looks good - did you sew it or just tuck it in?

I've only ever cut down some jeans to turn them into shorts - it took two pairs of jeans to make one pair of shorts as I came to learn that getting the cut right is an art in itself if you want to look stylish rather than like an urchin!

  4. @toni - I just tied the sleeves around and then into the front bow and then tucked in - I did do a few jumps to see if it fell down and it didn't - that isn't to say you'll see me in a bar in this town soon wearing it!

I love being honest, it's all I know:-)

  5. You are totally bonkers ... which is great as it makes for such an entertaining post :) I'm completely useless at anything involving a needle and thread; in fact the only time a needle and thread is mentioned in this house is when I torture the OH by warbling Doh-a-Deer from the Sound of Music!

  6. LOL Sound of Music - now I'm singing it 'tea a drink with jam and bread' ..

I am really the most uncreative person EVER ..

  11. I've made dresses out of skirts. Just take a full length skirt, pull it up over your boobs, maybe add a belt and waa-lah... a strapless summer dress!

  13. @life,loves - it felt almost secure if I stood still and did nothing .. but the moment you actually moved I'm sure the arms would untie and you'd be left standing in your bra and pants!!!
