Last night I had some girlfriends come over to view my bits and pieces. One of them is so stunningly gorgeous I can't put into words how much. She works for a corp and we were talking day/office/uniform wear. I said I would love to work in a formal office (the office I visit is very informal and small) and wear nice suits and dresses with killer heels and matching bags etc etc. And then I thought to myself, why can't I wear the nice dress and heels - I'm dressing for ME not for anyone else. I also own lots of nice dresses I never wear and as I'm on this
AND I AM SO GLAD I DID. Firstly it was so easy to get dressed this morning knowing what I was going to wear! Secondly, I received SO many lovely comments at school today - I mean really lovely (almost embarrassing) comments from class teachers and parents and then when I posted my look on Avenue 57 I got a whole day of lovely comments. I can't tell you what it means to receive such positive comments. I urge you all to tell someone they look lovely if you think they do - it makes their day/week/month. At BritMums on Saturday I saw this gorgeous woman - she was about 50 but looked so amazing. I walked up to her and told her - well she laughed and nearly fell over - she was SO made up and kept thanking me saying no-one had ever said such nice things to her before!
So .. the dress .. it's just a £20 from Sainsbury's but I love it - the style, the fit, it's comfortable, it was cheap (you know me and my supermarket bargains!) and I am still wearing it now whilst cooking supper and washing up - oh I know how to live!
Tomorrow I will dig out another favourite dress I don't wear often. What item do you wish your lifestyle meant you could wear more of?
Fiona
xoxo
I also have this dress and wore it during my pregnancy too as it's so stretchy and the wrap over gives you extra bump space! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh I bet it looked great as a maternity dress - I am going to wear it again (after 100 days) as it's one of the best and if I hadn't been inspired by my friend last night I wouldn't have worn it today!
DeleteYou look fabulous Fi - it's just a wonderful dress but it suits you to a T. You should SO wear it more often. I keep thinking of Kirsty Allsopp and her dress filled wardrobe. They are so bloomin easy to wear when you think of it - no matching separates! Ax
ReplyDeleteEXACTLY - it's just a single item and the biggest 'thought' about it is 'what shoes'
DeleteGot my eye on a spotty number for tomorrow with tan heels .. got a meeting so I can wear it for a reason!!
Thank you for lovely compliment - I am happy again!
Hi Fiona-wowser, you look gorgeous- I bet that dress is going to be a firm favourite of yours now! Is this still current? I'm itching to spend my Nectar card money but it's got to be on the right piece, knowing my luck you'll say it's not available anymore, hehe!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for more lovely words :-)
DeleteIt's about 2 years old I'm afraid
I have a lot of nectar points - this is a very good idea because if I use them to buy clothes that's not me 'spending' - I think I freaking love you for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A lady today posted this great shirt from Sainsbury's and I want it -http://www.avenue57.com/a57/look/9088/well-if-he-wants-to-eat-there-will-be-consequences.aspx
Well dilemma solved then-treat yourself to the shirt from your Nectar card, then no money is involved, hehe! I love her whole look, her jeans are fab!!
DeleteIt's a gorgeous dress, and no wonder you received so many compliments! You look amazing. I've been eyeing a dress on All Saints that has a similar gathering at the front, but I can't bering myself to spend the money. I wish I had a better talent at finding bargains.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm lucky because last year budget dictated I HAD to shop wisely and it kind of stuck!
DeleteOOh what's the link to the dress?
No wonder you got so many nice comments - you look fab!

Thank you!!!
DeleteLovely dress - Sainsburys are fab!! x
ReplyDeleteI've long been a fan - I keep saying they must get online but actually I am re-thinking this!
DeleteI saw you on avenue 57 and loved it but I didn't realise it was Sainsburys! Even more amazing! Absolutely stunning, Fiona. I love dresses and have many for that very reason - they are so easy to wear, change the shoes/jacket/accessories and it's a different look. Lynne x
ReplyDeleteHi Lynne - I wore another dress today! Easy to wear when the weather is nice!
DeleteYou look fabulous. You are sooo slim. What a lovely idea to tell someone they look lovely. You're right. It does bring a smile.
ReplyDeleteLove Liz xxx
I am all for making women feel good - we are our own worst enemy most times!
DeleteI'm still trying to do my bit to support local businesses, but your fab finds are challenging my resolve!
ReplyDeleteIf you've got it flaunt it as they say, you look super amazing. Will pop to Sainsburys later and keep my eyes peeled.
ReplyDeleteIt's an old dress - couple of years I think
Deletebut they do still have some cracking dresses in at the moment
Such a stunning figure Fiona, dress fits you perfectly. Recently had the opportunity to play 'dress up' for a formal office and have really enjoyed wearing blazers/tights/dresses, has made me feel so much more feminine and put together actually! x
ReplyDeleteWhat I love most is I know I don't have to do it every day so sometimes it's nice to play dress up KNOWING it's not forever!!
DeleteThat dress is amazing on you Fiona, it suits your figure perfectly, and who would have thought it was sainsburys! I've always said u give the best compliments, and I've been taking a leaf out of your book and paying plenty as you always make me feel great!
ReplyDeletePs. Ooo err at your friends viewing your 'bits and pieces' lol xxx
LOL didn't think about the bits and pieces comment - rude!
DeleteYAY spreading the compliment love!
Gorgeous dress & you do look amazing in it! You are doing so well with your spending ban! Ax
ReplyDeleteI may have a confession .................
DeleteI adore this on you - you look so elegant - very sophisticated. Aren't dresses comfy to wear?
ReplyDeleteLooks are so deceiving - me elegant and sophisticated - thank you!
DeleteI love jersey dresses!
Jersey dresses are da bomb and this one is particularly gorgeous on you. It totally flatters you in all the right places. And I love giving out compliments - it really does make someones day.
ReplyDeleteI love giving out because I know how nice I feel when I receive. What I need to learn now is to accept them with grace instead of saying something stupid like 'oh this old thing, oh it's from Sainsbury's, oh I don't really like' - I need some lessons!
DeleteYou look absolutely stunning in that dress - such a fab figure and great pins! And you're so right about paying compliments to people. I always do it (much to my daughter's mortification) as I know how great I feel if someone says something nice to me!
ReplyDeleteI love this dress, and the nude heels (an item my wardrobe definitely needs!). A perfect supermarket find - you look amazing!
