Simple is as simple does

Day 3 of the no repeat challenge, this is fun! I know it's only day 3 and I've not swam the channel or anything but still it's 3 days of I am hoping at least 90, if not more.

Talking of swimming the channel, my two boys, along with some other boys from their school, took part in a charity swimathon. They wanted to see if collectively they could swim the length of the channel - approx 1300 lengths of the 25m pool they have at school. At 10.15am they started and they concluded at 12.15. Each child swam the amount of lengths they could and then got out. Together, as a team the swam the equivalent of England to France, France to England and BACK AGAIN from England to France - the target was 1300 lengths and they SMASHED IT with over 3900 lengths swam. My 6 year old swam 60 lengths and my 8 year old managed 82 - to say I am proud is an understatement!

Right then, what did I wear? It was forecast hot  but that's not always the way at 9am so I went for a simple maxi dress (£19.99 from New Look), denim jacket and statement necklace. My husband said (when I didn't have the jacket on at first 'oh you're a bit dressed up' and I think this is why some people shy away from maxi dresses - they do not have to be considered smart or dressed up at all. I used to think this until 2 summers ago I just wore mine, and then I bought and wore another and another etc - the more you wear the less 'dressed up' you will feel. Even with the necklace on I didn't feel 'dressed up'.

Maxi hate or maxi heaven? How many do you own? Do you wear them any day or do you save for special occasions?

  1. I love the maxi dress on everyone else, but still not confident in them for me. Might as at 5'10" there seems to be so much material ! I do have a nice maxi skirt and am looking for another as an alternative to the dress. I definatley have my eye on the meandem jersey dress you showed last week :)

    1. I can't wait to do a proper show and tell of that dress but they're out of stock right now - I NEED it in the olive as well as the navy that I have!

Maxi dresses are really hard to buy I think - there are so many that just make me look bigger than I am - even with my height (5ft 9)

I reckon you need to shop around to find the right one for you

  2. What a coincidence. Yesterday I was going out to a rugby club BBQ and had on my maxi dress. My hubby politely told me he thought I was a bit overdressed. I did change but may have another go today. Love the blog xx

  4. That is a serious amount of lengths, I don't think I could make 82 lengths. Love maxis as can leave legs furry!!

  5. Wow - your boys did so well. Much stronger swimmers than mine for their age.

And the dress looks lovely on you - it does look glam I have to say but once you tone it down with the denim jacket, it does look so easy to wear. And you can treat it as a maxi skirt too with a top or jumper?

    1. That's my favourite winter trick - ie jumper over the top and biker boots!

  6. I have two maxi dresses! One is black and I love it with my denim jacket. The other is a floral from Forever 21 that I'm hoping to get some wear out of this summer. I never wore maxi dresses before, because I couldn't find any that suited me properly. I'm still on the hunt for another, but I am really considering the spending break like you. It's just so hard!

    1. Oh I love Forever 21 - I always go there when I'm in the states (not found the local here any good if I'm honest)

It's so hard to be on a spending break but I'm loving thinking more about what I own today instead of what I need (which in truth is nothing, I don't NEED anything else!)

  8. Wow -well done your boys...that's some achievement! You look lovely in your dress. As you know, I'm a fan. Like you, I wear with a denim jacket to tone it down a bit. But they are perfect day to night wear as you just whip off your jacket and you're dressed for a night out! Enjoy the sunshine this week, Axx
