I hate my hair

Well that's a bit of a dramatic title but I am not happy. I've not been happy with my hair for a very very very long time. In my mid 30's I dyed it with blonde highlights and I loved it (hated the regrowth and what it did to the condition of my hair) but I absolutely loved the colour (as did my husband who has a thing for blonde hair). This was from 2009 (terrible scanned pic sorry).

And then it went short, I dyed it back to dark brown, I tried to grow it again but age and condition of my hair and my age was against me.

I've gone from shorter to slightly longer to continued brown. I've home dyed, organically dyed and now I have a lady come to the house to dye it for me because organic hair dye does not cover grey well.

The condition of my hair is now ok, so I'm on the growing journey again. I want it like this again.

But I have the issue that age is making my hair thinner. I have a solution! A couple actually. I have a new ceramic barrel brush and when used with the Natur Vital hair tonic it really adds volume.

I've also got this on order (seriously, it was derived from horse hair products and the Daily Mail were raving about it last year). I'll let you know how I get on with it. I will try anything for 'bigger' hair.

I've also heard that the key to faster growing hair is chemical free (parabens/sulphate) shampoo and conditioner - I will be adding these to my already full shelf in the shower!

I'll report back in a few months. In the meantime I am going to attempt to wear my hair up every day until it's long enough to swish around my shoulders!

Have you found the condition of your hair change due to over treating it? Age? Do you have a miracle product you swear by for healthy hair?

    1. Isn't it funny - I see your hair and think 'gosh she looks good' and yet you hate/love yours!
I will report back for sure!

  2. No!!!!! Don't do blonde - you'll lose the intensity of your fabulous blue eyes. I know this isn't helpful but I really like your hair short. And it looked stunning when you had it put up at Gemini. Can't wait for your report on the products. I bought a spray recently that guarantees 100% more volume?it's good but not 100% good x

    1. I will listen to you my good friend and not go blonde!
Gemini hair was amazing, I do agree, but that's what happens when you have a professional doing it!!!

    1. I'm bored of it short! I think I'll grow it, then get bored of that and then cut it again!

  5. As far as products go I have to give a shout out to Philip Kingsley elastisizer
My hair looks much better for having used it these last 6 months. Having just taken up proper swimming I'm scared to think what my hair would look like if I didn't use it.

I also flip between blonde and brown on the colour spectrum.

    1. When I went swimming the chlorine killed my hair. I nearly wore a hat. Instead I stopped swimming (I hate exercise)!!!

I'll look at anything to make my hair fuller - thanks for the tip on the PK stuff

  6. I have very thin, fine hair and I hate it. It's just as well it's naturally curly or there'd be nothing of it! Looking forward to hearing how you get on. Love your hair brown and I like it short too. Lynne xx

    1. Lynne, your hair always looks so good. I have a natural curl that I think I'm going to work with instead of working against it all the time.

  7. Pantene Age Defy!!! Where do I start. I think finding a shampoo that doesn't make hair static is a good start and this one works for me. Any product that claims to add volume seems to make my hair look super crap. I find it better now my hair is cut shorter at the back. The front is still FAR TOO THIN for my liking and I am going to have my colour refreshed soon. I do think your' hair looks lovely in that photo too. That is definitely the correct colour, as Donna has said, for your' eyes. Personally I would avoid going too long again. :0) H xx

    1. I don't want too long, just shoulder length long. I agree that volume boosting shampoos can make your hair dull and limp.

  8. You have fab hair and it always looks beautifully styled and in good condition!! I have the thinnest hair known to man, a layer of hair! No products have ever given it much more bounce, had a blow dry the other day that was amazing wish I could have that three times a week! Xx

    1. OMG Francis how funny about your hair because to me it looks thick and luscious!
A prof blow dry is the way forward I agree about that. When I am rich I shall have someone do my hair every day!

  11. Also meant to say I think all men are born with the illness commonly known as Princess Syndrome. The main symptom is the irrational love of long blonde hair . Happily most grow out of this around puberty but for some it's a life long condition. My husband is a lifetime sufferer unfortunately

  12. this is worth remember as my hair is also much finer than when I was younger. I am also naturally dark but did you know that hairdressers can now use a bleach shampoo which is far less harsh than normal bleach. You look stunning with dark hair though!

  13. Good luck with the new products. Just be carefull with that brush. The blurb about it says the ceramic barrel retains heat. I used to have a v similar hairbrush and the hear from the barrel damaged my hair so much it was breaking and actually got thinner!

    1. I am trying to make sure I don't use the hot setting on my hair dryer. I'll keep an eye out on that brush though - so far the benefits of volume are outweighing the potential damage!

  14. So kind, I guess one photo does sometimes show it off but within 1 hr it's flat and limp and pathetic and frizzy!
It's a shame hair dye does this to our hair, I'd like a couple of low lights

  15. Do you use conditioner? And if so, have you considered stopping? I am lucky as I have very thick hair & I haven't noticed it changing with age - but I'm convinced that most conditioners can leave hair looking limp. Try not using it and see if it helps. And I agree with Donna - you look fab with dark hair. Really suits you & makes those eyes pop x

  16. LOVE the photo of you with it really long. But you've one of those faces that suits it most ways actually...and despite you telling us how bad it is, it never looks it in your photos. Good luck with the products - that horse stuff is rubbish by the way...perhaps too late to tell you? Full of sulphates and silicones. I was sent some a few months back...hubby uses it now :) x

    1. I may have to use your tip of TK Maxx for sulphate free stuff ..
I'll give this to my BIL who uses it on his beard!

  17. Yes, definitely, I loose A LOT of hair - every day my carpet needs a little vac! However I still have a lot of it. I've stopped straightening mine so much now, only a couple of times a week plus have swapped to SLS free stuff too. When it was really weak and I was loosing a lot I used a Paul Mitchell strength shampoo which really helped. What about supplements - what's that oil like one in a capsule - I'm sure that's supposed to be good for hair? I love yours darn brown, more than blonde x

  18. I never even realised how much of a toll chemicals were taking on my hair until I stopped dyeing. Not that I'm telling you you should. You have to be ready to take a step like that. But have a look at sulphate-free shampoos, and try to keep the colouring to a minimum, and you will likely see an improvement. Also, sometimes low iron levels (and other nutritional causes) can cause women's hair to thin, so you may want to get yourself a good nutritional workup.

  19. I prefer your hair darker and think you should try it pixie short like Frankie in the Saturdays!
