Day Dresses

It's not very often I wear a dress ( I hate my knees .. when did they suddenly turn so wrinkly, saggy and truly vile??) so I do prefer dresses in the winter as I can wear thick tights and shoes/boots.

I've been wearing jeans/trousers for what seems like forever, in fact I can't recall a time before this week that I had a dress on last.

I wore one of my favourite denim dresses the other day and after such lovely compliments on Avenue 57 I decided to wear another one quickly after. I had in mind which one but was a tad unsure because of the length. Now, either I've had a growth spurt or this dress has shrunk because it's now TOO short to wear as a dress on its own and it rides up terribly when walking. I love it though, so fresh and spring like but alas, it was not meat to be and after getting dressed and taking a photo I took it off. Shall be on the hunt for something similar (but longer) this Spring.

Instead I ended up in one of the best TK Maxx finds ever. A gorgeous DKNY dress that was something crazy like £150 down to £50ish (can't quite remember how much but I do know I'm a tight fisted shopper so it can't have been more than that!)

I received so many comments about my bargain Mango necklace too - love it and can't wait for the next Mango sale!

Are you a jeans/trouser person or more a skirt/dress wearer? I am going to try and mix it up a bit more now the weather looks like it might be warming up - hoorah!

    1. I think I have worn it once before with leggings and biker boots yes - I should have remembered that! I will wear again because it's such a cute dress with oversized side bits that cover everything that needs to be covered! It was a bargain Dorothy Perkins dress a couple of years ago.

  2. Never underestimate the power of a Dotty P dress. They always have a fab selection but DP's seems to be off everyone's radar.

I love the DKNY dress - that is my kind of dress - it has pockets, simple shift shape and most importantlyl allows you to eat loads and you never have a fat day in them because they always fit. Faberooni!

I'm definitely a jeans girl but come summer, I do give the legs an occasional airing - it's only fair.

    1. I need to start with the defuzzing of legs (sigh) and the tinted moisteriser to get my bare legs out!

I agree that this grey dress is perfection as I did scoff on yesterday at the inlaws and I could relax in comfort!!

  4. I'm definitely more a jeans and trousers person. I always feel a bit too dressed up if I wear a dress. But that DKNY one is perfect. Love it!

    1. I did too and I still do if I wear a dress or skirt, but I'm SLOWLY learning that it doesn't have to look serious or stuffy, you can wear it casually too - if you try!

  5. I'm more of a dress kind of girl. I have a love of lace dresses which I try to wear through all the seasons, mixing them with wool and different coloured tights. I love your Mango necklace, I bought one in the sale and it's really versatile.

  6. It's quite common to lose muscle tone around your knees as you approach 40s, you should start to consciously pull up you knee caps using the surrounding muscles when you think about it, not just for short skirts, but to prevent horrible knee problems when you are older. It's one of t he key yoga things which is kind of a biggie, like keeping shoulder blades back and down to avoid widow's hump which is another age one that I struggle with!

    1. NOOOOOO widow's hump, saggy knees - I have both of those - shoot me now!!!!!!!!!!!

I do try to pull back, pull up and correct my posture but I work in front of the PC full time so it's VERY hard to correct 15 years worth of bad habit!

  7. I love dresses but really don't own enough of them & have even less skirts! I'm stuck in a jeans/trousers rut & I'm defo going to do my best to get myself out of it this year! Its difficult here though as I have to be respectful in the way I dress & so that makes it a bit harder too! Nothing above the knee but then mind you at this age I probably shouldnt go there anyway! I've just ordered a maxi dress from Dotty P's & cant wait for it to arrive! Ax

    1. One of my best friends just moved to Qatar and is struggling so much with the respect of the culture (obviously she does!!)

Capri/Cigarette trousers would work well? I would welcome this as this hides my crap knees!!!!

Ooh excited already about your maxi dress!!!
